Built for everyday discovery
Beside uses Bluetooth Low Energy to discover nearby users. Our tests found very small day-to-day battery use, making discovery something you can leave on during your outings.
Usage varies with your phone, operating system, screen time and network conditions. You can see how Beside performs on your device in its battery report.
Check your own phone
- On iPhone, open Settings → Battery and find Beside in the app activity or battery-usage list. Review the selected time period and any background activity.
- On Android, open Settings → Battery → Battery usage, or open Beside’s app information and its battery section. Names differ between phone manufacturers.
- Read what the percentage represents. A share of the battery used during a period is not the same as percentage points lost from a full charge. Compare similar periods rather than a single short session.
Keep discovery ready while you are out
Leave Bluetooth, the required permissions and background activity enabled so Beside can record encounters during your day. The background-discovery guide walks you through the settings for your phone.
If you want to pause new discovery, tap the Beside logo. Earlier encounters stay available; resume discovery when you are ready for more.
If usage seems unusually high
Update Beside and compare its battery use over similar periods, noting how much you used the screen and whether discovery was active. If usage still seems unusual, contact support with your phone model, operating system, app version and a battery-report screenshot with unrelated information hidden.
